Freedom's Frontier Heritage Traveler

Plan the Best Field Trip Ever

Field Trips are a great way to supplement classroom learning. What could be better than following up a lesson on the history of the area than with a trip to see the sites you read about? There are so many field trip opportunities within Heritage Area! If you are a teacher, look into taking your students to one of Freedom’s Frontier partner sites. We know transportation can cost more and more each year, add on to that the cost of admission to many of the sites, and some teachers may not be able to take field trips. Freedom’s Frontier realizes the importance of field trips, the significance of the stories of the Heritage Area, and understands how difficult it can be to raise funds. We are proud to be able to offer teachers our Bus on Us Transportation Scholarships.

Our Bus on Us program opened August 1st, 2015 for the 2015-2016 school year! The Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA) “Bus on Us” grant program is designed to assist educators and schools with the cost of transportation to field trips within the heritage area that also align with the themes of Freedom’s Frontier (Missouri Kansas Border War, Shaping the Frontier, and Struggles for Freedom). Any accredited PreK-12 public, private, or charter school located within Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area who would like to discover and explore the themes of the heritage area is eligible. Only one grant per classroom will be awarded within each grant cycle (school year).

Any registered field trip related to the Freedom’s Frontier themes and located within the 41 counties of the heritage area are eligible for 75% of funding towards transportation. A list of these eligible field trips can be found here. Other destinations, shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The FFNHA “Bus on Us” grant program is managed by the FFNHA Education & Interpretation Manager. Grants will be awarded to complete and approved applications on a first come, first serve basis until all funding for that grant cycle is depleted. A notice will be made on the FFNHA website when the current funding has been depleted for that grant cycle.

Visit our website for more information on how you can take a field trip within the Heritage Area! Bus on Us, and you’re sure to plan the best field trip ever!
