Climate change challenges our natural landscape throughout the United States. In Freedom’s Frontier, our native tallgrass prairies are a fragile, yet important ecosystem. Tallgrass prairies support a diverse range of flora and fauna. Mature prairies store more carbon below ground than a similarly sized forest can store.

The National Park Service is committed to minimizing the impact of climate change on our nation’s treasurers. You can learn more about the NPS’s response and how you can help on the National Park Service’s Climate Change webpage.

Visit our partners at Prairie State Park, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and the Flint Hills Discovery Center to learn more about the tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
